The Jomsom and Muktinath Trek is relatively easy compared to Everest Base Camp. Also, exploring the Jomsom and Muktinath sites during the season of monsoon is ideal as they are located in the Himalayan rain shadow, resulting in minimal rainfall.

Jomsom is a small town at the base of Nilgiri Himal. It is the most popular trekking trip to Muktinath. Jomsom houses the airport where people take quick flights to and from Pokhara. Here you can find various accommodations and high-end resorts for the stay after the trek to Muktinath. The trails follow the river bank of the Kali Gandaki River, which is recorded to be the deepest canyon worldwide. The upper ridges of the river are widely known to be a popular site to find fossilized ammonites, renowned as Shaligram. In the lower regions of the region, there is the settlement of Gurung, Magar, and Thakalis communities around Jomsom. And, around Muktinath up to Mustang, you can see the settlements of Tibetan roots, the Lopa communities.

A little further from Jomsom, there is the village of Kagbeni. It’s also an alternative place to start the ¾ hour trek to Muktinath. This place is also the farthest you can go without environmental permits and mountain guides. It’s less commercialized than Jomsom. Moreover, Kagbeni is renowned as a 500-year-old monastery that holds significant culture and history for the Mustang region.

The trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath reveals the breathtaking views of Thorong Peak, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, etc. Muktinath is the most renowned pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists.

While heading back to Jomsom from Muktinath, you will pass by the pre-Buddhism village of Lubra. Here you will explore more history and culture of the Mustang region and the views from here are worth taking pictures of for a memory. In this area, the historical and cultural richness is abundant from the Mustang region, the amazing views are truly inspiring. You can hike through the meadows towards the crest, which offers a more intimate view of the towering Dhaulagiri range.

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival

After you arrive at Kathmandu airport, Quest Himalayan Trek and Expedition team representatives will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. After check-in, you either choose to rest for the rest of the day in your room or stroll around the city. In the evening, there is a meeting hosted for you guys where you get information about the upcoming adventure days. After the meeting, you will be taken to a Nepalese restaurant where you will enjoy your welcome dinner and get a taste of Nepalese food.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing

Your day tour begins after breakfast on private vehicles. You will visit the capital’s most popular World Heritage Sites, which are:

  • Swayambunath Stupa (The Monkey Temple): You can see the valley from the top of a hill on its west side. Swayambhunath is also renowned as a monkey temple because of the countless monkeys found here.
  • Pashupatinath Temple: The Pashupatinath Temple is another one on the list for your visit today.  It is one of the most sacred Hindu temples in Nepal. It is located on the banks of the Bagmati River and the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
  • Boudhanath Stupa: The Boudhanath Stupa is a more than 2500 years old Buddhist stupa, built with four pairs of eyes by Lord Buddha in the 5th century. It is believed to have four directions and maintains the eternal which watches over people and their actions. You will also find Buddhist pilgrimage from Tibet circling the stupa and turning the prayer wheels.
  • Patan Durbar Square:  The Patan Durbar Square is located in the Lalitpur city center. It shows the architecture of Newari, which reached its peak during the reign of the Malla Kings. The rest of the time is available for self-exploration of town or you also shop near your hotel. In the evening return to the same hotel for a night’s stay.

Day 03: Transfer to Pokhara by flight and trek to Tikhedhunga

After enjoying your breakfast in the hotel, get ready to fly to Pokhara. After arriving at Pokhara Airport, we will greet you and transfer your Naya Pul from where your trek starts. Then, you will begin your trekking to Tikhedhunga via Birethanti. Today’s hike is a reasonably easy flat hike through various small villages and lively settlements. After a few moments of walking, we will finally reach our final destination, Tikhedhunga. You will spend your night in a guest house here in Tikhedhunga.

Day 04: Trek to Ghorepani: 5-6 hours

Enjoy your morning breakfast in Tikhedhunga. After your breakfast, you will start your trek gently through Ulleri and Banthanti. This path offers you stunning views of Hiunchuli, Fish Tail, Machhapuchhare, and the massive Southern Annapurna. Your way now will be relatively easy as you walk through shady forests, and rhododendrons, which gives a pleasant feeling until you climb up to reach our today’s final destination, i.e., Ghorepani. Today you will spend your night in Ghorepani.

Day 05: Ghorepani to Tatopani: 5-6 hours

Before starting your today’s trek to Tatopani, enjoy the mesmerizing view of the Annapurna South and Nilgiri peaks. After that, your tour starts with a descent to Shikha village. Then, you will gradually reach Ghar Khola, and cross the suspension bridge making your way to Tatopani nearby. After reaching Tatopani, you can enjoy natural hot springs and relax. You will spend your night here at a guest house in Tatopani.

Day 06: Tatopani to Ghasa: 5-6 hours

You will start your trek after enjoying your breakfast. You will start trekking by gradually climbing the path with the Kali Gandaki River on the right. Continue your walk crossing the suspension bridge across the river. This way leads you to the beautiful Rupse Chhahara waterfall. Then, you will continue to walk towards Ghasa, a beautiful place located at the foot of the Kali Gandaki Valley. It is also a renowned place for bird-watching lovers. We will spend our night here in Ghasa at a guesthouse.

Day 07: Trek from Ghasa to Marpha: 4-5 hours

Climb a steep path through a forest up to the Lete Khola. After a few walks, you will reach the city of Lete. Then, we will continue our journey on a route east of the river and reach the small village of Larjung. On your trek to Marpha, you will get to see gorgeous apple orchards and vegetable farms. After a few hours of walking, you will finally reach our final destination for today, Marpha. We will spend our night here at a guest house in Marpha.

Day 08: Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni: 4-5 hours

From Marpha, you will walk along a path that depends on a valley. Gradually moving forward, you climb a crest and reach the village of Jomsom. From here, heading north to Kagbeni, walk down the Kali Gandaki River, the deepest gorge in the world. This area is windy here, so it’s essential to walk carefully. Now, you will walk through the Elke Bhatti village and finally reach your destination, Kagebni after a few moments. From Kagbeni, the views of mountains such as Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and Tukuche are breathtaking. So don’t forget to click a picture with your groups/friends here for a lifetime memory.

Day 09: Trek to Muktinath: 5-6 hours

Today, your trek starts with a special permit check and leads to the banks of the Kali Gandaki River. During the trek, you will have picturesque places to explore and admire. Now, the trail rises steeply from Kagbeni and returns to the direct path that leads to Khingar (3,200m). Then, you will walk through a desert landscape toward the city of Jarkot and finally reach Muktinath after a few climbs ahead.

Day 10: Trek to Jomsom from Muktinath: 5-6 hours

Muktinath is a most sacred pilgrimage site for all Hindus and Buddhists located here in Nepal. In the morning, you can visit the temple and explore the surrounding areas. Later in the afternoon, after the exploration of the Muktinath sites, head back to Jomsom and enjoy the beautiful view of Mount Dhaulagiri. Today, you will spend your night here at Jomsom.

Day 11: From Jomsom to Pokhara by Flight

Early in the morning, you will catch a flight to Pokhara. This flight is an incredible experience as it goes through a gorge between the Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna Mountains. After you arrive in Pokhara, check-in at the hotel. You can spend the rest of the day exploring this beautiful ‘Lake City’. You enjoy the ride on Few Lake or stroll around the lake and shop or simply rest in your hotel rooms, do as you, please. Today, you will spend your night here in Pokhara.

Day 12: Drive/Flight to Kathmandu

After enjoying your breakfast in the hotel, check- out of the hotel. Today, you will return to Kathmandu by private vehicle or by plane. You will spend your night here in Kathmandu.

Day 13: Departure day 

Today is the last day of your Jomsom and Muktinath Trek here in Nepal. After enjoying your breakfast, get transferred to the airport for your flight to your hometown promising to meet again. Therefore, before you book your Nepal trekking or peak climbing, please read this packing list carefully and arrange it with you. The following are the list of equipments that we suggest to you for trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal.

Trekking Boots: You must pack sturdy and comfortable hiking waterproof boots that provide support and protection to your feet and ankles. Also, be sure that you tie and untie the laces with ease and check that the boot has deep-cut traction on the sole.

Backpack: Choose a backpack with a good quality having of capacity 40-60litres to carry all your gear and personal items. Duffle bag or kit bag is necessary to carry gear while trekking.

Sleeping Bags: It is best to carry your own sleeping bags. For trekking in high-altitudes in Nepal, we advise you to carry a warm and lightweight sleeping bag rated to at least -25C.

Clothing: You will need a variety of clothing depending on the season of your trekking. But for any season trekking, always carry quick-drying, moisture-wicking clothes. Also not to forget the layers are very important for adjusting to changing temperatures during trekking days. So, choose the best brands for a base layer, insulation layer, outer layer, trekking trousers, shirts, waterproof jackets, etc.

Trekking Poles: The use of poles during trekking days is very essential as they help to reduce the impact and stress on your joints and make your trekking days easier, especially on steep and rugged terrain.

First Aid Kit: Don’t forget to carry a first aid kit with essentials such as antiseptic, bandages, pain relievers, blister treatments, etc.

Water Filtration System: Rather than buying bottled water in every lodge, or tea house, we suggest you carry a water bottle with a built-in filter or water purification tablets for safe drinking water.

Footwear for Trekkers:

  • Trainer or casual shoes, for trekking and/or travelling.
  • Warm thermal socks for colder areas.
  • Gaiters, in case of rain or snow

Body:
